Lucky’s for “Small Wonder Bar” of the Year at the NCB Awards!
Just this week we submitted our entry for the category of “Small Wonder Bar” for this upcoming year’s Nightclub & Bar Awards (NCB Awards) at the NCB Show in the always rockin’ Las Vegas – taking place in March 2011!
We thought we’d share our entry and get your comments on what it is that YOU love about Lucky’s/Around the Corner… share your thoughts just below in the “comments” section… we love to hear from you!
“Get Lucky” at this quaint hidden treasure just around the corner from Raleigh, NC’s most popular district, Glenwood South. “Lucky B’s Around the Corner”, a low key, anything goes, gold ol’ bar, was a recipe for success from get-go, co-owned by NHL standout, Bates Battaglia, and downtown Raleigh guru and former All-American NC State wrestler, Mike Lombardo, who are both frequent patrons on any given weekend. Come after work in your business attire, in your sweats after a workout, or in your best party wear, and you’ll fit right in. With less than 40 seats in the bar, it continues to be a full house every night. Live entertainment, video games, and pool tables nest nicely in this hip joint, with an outdoor patio (complete with its own bar), bocce ball court, and cornhole courts for outdoor fun. It is downright one of the least expensive, most laid back, hippest bars in town. You will often see NHL local favorites – Carolina Hurricanes players – and their opposing team after a game, some of Raleigh’s most beautiful and established, while chilling over a cold one with no interference.
Lucky B’s name originated from Battaglia’s player number 13, which is shaped like a “B”, and Lombardo’s grandfather’s nickname, Lucky. Figuring out a formula in this quicklyWh growing town is always difficult, but the Battaglia-Lombardo combination coupled with a great location, continuously makes it one of Raleigh’s most popular night spots. Call it “Lucky’s”, “Lucky B’s”, “Around the Corner”, or just “the bar”…whatever you call it, you’ll love it.
